Tips and Techniques for Properly Caring for Your Money Tree

    Author: Cris Hall

In this article, I'll be sharing some valuable tips and techniques I've gathered over the years on how to properly care for your money tree. Whether you already own one, plan to get one soon, or are just curious about money tree care, this guide is for you. For a more detailed guide, you can refer to this article.

Light: Strong Indirect Light is Key

A money tree thrives in strong indirect light. Providing this type of light will lead to robust growth. Transitioning the plant from bright indirect light to a little direct morning or afternoon light over time is advisable. While it can tolerate some direct light, it's crucial to transition gradually to avoid stress. If exposed to too much direct light abruptly, it may result in leaf loss.

    Watering: Thorough But Seldom

Water your money tree only when the soil is completely dry. When watering, ensure thorough saturation of the soil, either by moving it outdoors or watering from the bottom up. Be certain that there are drainage holes to allow excess water to escape, preventing potential root rot.

For precise watering, a moisture meter like this one is indispensable. It provides accurate readings of soil moisture, light levels, and pH, helping you avoid over or under watering. For a more detailed guide on using a moisture meter, you can refer to this article.

Fertilizing: A Nutrient Boost for Growth

Fertilizing every two weeks during the growth phase is recommended for optimal growth. Afterward, dilute the liquid fertilizer by half to avoid over-feeding, which could harm the plant. Always fertilize in moderation to promote healthy growth without causing damage. For more information on fertilizing and plant food recommendations, check out this article.

    Temperature: Comfortable Range

Maintain temperatures between 65 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit for your money tree. While it can tolerate slight deviations from this range, extreme temperatures may cause stress. Keep the environment neutral to ensure your plant thrives.

    Humidity: Maintain at 50%

A humidity level of around 50% is ideal for a healthy money tree. If you don't own a humidifier, you can create a DIY solution. Simply place a shallow dish with pebbles and water near your plant. As the water evaporates, it increases humidity. Alternatively, consider investing in a humidifier for a more controlled environment.

    Propagation: Stem Cuttings for Success

Stem cuttings are the most effective method for propagating a money tree. Take a cutting that's 10 to 15 centimeters long and choose between water or soil propagation. Additionally, using root hormone like Garden Safe Take Roots can enhance success rates.
